A workshop exploring the principles and practices of various indigenous African spiritual systems.
In contrast to more conventional approaches that tend to trace a subduing of African spirituality or that tend to examine its role as “context” for other shifts (economic, political, social, cultural), this workshop will explore the powers of African spiritual traditions on their own terms. Led by writer and columnist for Madame Noire, Arah Iloabugichukwu, this workshop will explore healing, divination, connection, adjudication, protection, and broader relations with the spiritual realm such as deities, ancestors, and other energies. Activities will include an altar building demonstration and group cleansing ceremony.
